TABC enforces alcohol laws at spring break

Spring Events Alcohol and TABC

Spring events – alcohol and TABC. Oh Springtime will be here soon. . We thought it would never get here, but here it is. Winter was way too long and very dreary. But now, the fun time stuff really gets into gear here in Texas. Spring Break tops the list with activities happening all over the state, but especially the Texas Coast. Students from Texas and all over the country flock to the beaches and ocean from Port Arthur to Galveston, to Port Aransas, all the way south to South Padre Island.

In Austin we have the 2 week internationally known South by Southwest filling all the available bars, restaurants, and music venues around town with music, movies, interactive talks among other activities. The rodeo hits Austin and other Texas cities. Baseball season begins and the Men’s and Women’s Final 4 Basketball Tournament commences. Then prom season at the high schools with high school and college graduations not far behind.

With all of these events, parties, and other things going on, of course many of them will involve alcohol. That’s right. Beer and more beer, wine, Margaritas, Tequila shots and more. Along with the alcohol we also will see a ramp up of TABC and other police intervention looking for illegal sales and consumption of booze.

Some of the primary alcohol laws enforcement will be looking for sales to minors, sales to intoxicated persons, public intoxication (PI) as well as driving while intoxicated (DWI) among others. If you work in the alcohol industry or consume alcohol yourself, you must be very very cautious. It is easy for some people to get carried away with all the fun and excitement and making good money and slacking off on their diligence. Remember it is illegal to sell alcohol to anyone under the age of 21. It is illegal to drink alcohol under the age of 21 except with the direct supervision of a parent, spouse, or legal guardian who are over the age of 21. It is illegal to sell or serve a person who is visibly intoxicated or to someone you should have known is intoxicated.

Have fun and make lots of money, but always remember your duty to sell and serve alcohol responsibly. Learn more by getting your TABC Certification or TABC and Food Handler Certification today.
